Last Wednesday and Friday in class we went over the story “Everyday” Use and this is the summary of what l got on the story. “Everyday Use” by Alice Walker is really relevant today. So many people, like Dee (Wangero) tend to get all wrapped up in the things of this world and forget about what is most important. Dee is so concerned about flaunting and pleasing others that she has lost hold of her family values and heritage. The irony of it is that she chases her heritage while running away from her family heritage all along. She wants nothing to do with the lifestyle that her family founded for her. Her house was not good enough for her liking before and still is a disgrace to her.

Her family is an embarrassment to her, and she pities her younger sister Maggie. She does not take advantage of the richness of the history that she has in her home and her family. For Dee materialistic things are an advantage to her private sector of life and she goes as for as to change her name in order to redefine herself and her reputation. The key point in this story is to remember who you are and where you come from, because no matter what facade you wear, you are still going to be a part of your blood line and your history.

 Coming from Zimbabwe to America, it seems easy to lose sight and become Americanized, but I keep in mind the values of my family, where I come from, and who I am. It is important to get the best out of the people and things you are blessed with, no matter how big and small. How you show your appreciation is a priceless way of making the smallest things so much more significant. Like grandma’s quilt and the clay floor of the “living room” in the story, little things are worth so much more when you value and make use of them. It is very important to know where we are coming from. 

When l woke up this morning l looked through the window and l saw the bright sunshine shinning so beautiful. Also, l saw the blooming trees and flowers, so altogether with the sunshine it just made a perfect cite. It made my day just to see how beautiful it was outside, and it made think about how wonderful God is because He is the creator of all this nature.

God is wonderful because He is always there for us and He is always gives us the grace that we do not even deserve. He gave us His only Son to save from our sins and for all these good things that He has done for me, l am going to sing about His love. I get so excited when l think about God because He is always faithful to us and He will always deliver us. I remember when l faced some hopeless situations where l thought l would never carry it through, on my surprise l got through it. Tough situations have tried to pull me down but He has helped me to get through it, l remember when l tore my (ACL) playing soccer, it was one of my worst feelings that l felt, the pain and how swollen the leg was. I thought about how l was going to get through my studies and all the responsibility that l had. But God came on top and He helped to cope with the difficulties that l was baring.

Everything that God is in, it prospers, even if the problems that we may think are too complicated, God will solve them because He got the solution to everything. I am going to praise Him all the times just to show how l appreciate all the goodness that He has done for me, He is and He will do for me. God is not unable but we are unwilling. If got is for you who can be against you. What a wonderful God.   

I am a person who is really grateful about most of things that comes in my journey of life. I choose to be grateful because l grew up in a situation where necessities where not easily affordable, for example clothes and food. My parents grew up in the same way as l did, but they have always taught me that it is better to be appreciative of things, than to take them for granted. l am a goal driven person, l want to achieve all of my goals and it is possible if l work hard and pray. l am going to do my best and let God be the bus driver of my life.

l have came to a point where l have thought about what l really want to achieve in my life. I came to a conclusion that the greatest achievement for l, is to first love God, my neighbors and myself. The reason why l chose these aspects is that, they are the core systems of my life, they are the things that shape my life. If l love God it means that l am going to be loyal to Him regardless what people say or what the situation may look like. l will give Him all the praise all the times. l will do the best that l can to spread the word of God, and isn’t it strange how easy it is for us people to exchange gossip than the word of God.

If l love my neighbor l am not going to bad things to my neighbor, for example l am not going to score, cheat, steal, gossip and several other bad things. Rather doing bad things to my neighbor, l will do good things to them for example providing a helping hand whenever they need one. Also, to be happy for them if they succeed in life, l feel like this is one of the most important thing to do regarding out neighbors because this have to hatred among neighbors.

Lastly, if l love myself l will do everything it takes to make sure that l do not do anything to that hurts or harms myself, for example if one really loves himself or herself they will never take drugs because all there doing is harming their beautiful wonderful bodies. l will stay health as possible as l can.

This is a brief summary of why l chose to love God, my neighbor and myself as my greatest achievement in life. Above all l am going to obey God’s commandments because delay in obedience is disobedience. 

We are getting close to final exams and students are studying very hard, so that they can do well in their finals. Some students are busy preparing the final papers for their classes. As students we can do all that we can to make sure that we have good grades, even if it means to stay up all night studying. The library is mainly full these days with students putting studies together so as to not get caught off guide with the final exams. Many students are going to their teachers to ask for their grades because they want to know how they did during the course of the class, so as to see how much they need to put in the final exams.

I recognized all these actions that have been happening and what some other students where saying about the final exams, it made me think about something. Many students they where saying one thing in common, which was “l want to make sure that l make good grades,” I thought about, is it all about having a better grade or a understanding the information that we are being taught and make better grades. There is nothing wrong about making good grades, but my main concern comes with the way some of students they are having good grades, which is by cramming. It normally works on many students and end up making good grades, but the bad part of it is that after taking the test or exam one will forget the most of the material. That’s where the problem comes because l feel like we being taught the material in classes, so that the we can be able to apply it in our daily lives, not only for grades. Also, we are being taught the material, so that we can be better decision makers and mostly to be wiser.   

Before studying let us always take into mind that, it is not about the grades only but also about grasping the information for a better, wiser generation. 

l have been writing a research paper on humanitarian aid and l just of sharing what l have find on my research because it was an interesting topic to me. It took me several days to gather the information together, because it required a lot of studying on several articles and journals.

Humanitarian aid have been helpful to many poor countries because it has come in handy most of the times when poor countries faces difficult situations, like health problems and natural disasters. For example there was a lisbon earthquake which strike Portugal many years ago, the aid was able to help the county in many different ways like giving money to the country and help in building infrastructure. Few months ago many people in the world heard about the devastating earthquake which occurred in Haiti. It was so sad because buildings where destroyed, many people where killed and many others where injured and left homeless, but the aid have been doing they best to provide some necessities to Haiti people. Aid have been able to help many poor countries especially poor African countries because that is where the help is really needed most. There have been able to help countries like Zambia, Mozambique, Malawi and several others. They have been helping with things like food, vaccines for different disease and building infrastructure.

Although there have been several drawbacks to the development of poor countries like corrupted governments and other several reasons. Aid have made a huge difference in poor countries in aspects like heath care, infrastructure, living standards and general wealth.    

Today when l was watching a talk show on television, something really draw my attention. What draw my attention was what the other lady on the talk show was talking about. She was talking about how she do all the work in the house like clean the dishes, baby seat, laundry, cook, just to name a few, while her husband does not even try to help her do all these household works. And all the husband does is go to work, come back, seat on the couch and watch television and then go to bed. The wife also go to work but she make sure that everything in the house is done and their child is being taken good care off.

What touched my heart was when she was asked if she had asked for help from the husband. She said, he said to me, l handle and do a lot to take care of you as my wife, and it is your responsibility as a wife to make sure that household work is done. There where even several ladies on the show who had the similar issue. This is just not right because wife’s and mothers should not be left alone to do all the house hold works, because they also get tired and they deserve a rest. Men should step up and help women to handle all these household works, because there is more to a lady than what we just see with our mare eyes. To all the husbands just take a moment and think about what your wife’s do as house wife and picture yourselves doing the same thing, and see if you can make it past through a day.

It will be wiser and easy if husbands and wife’s help one another to tackle the household works, than to live it for one partner to handle all the work. I feel like this can also contribute to a healthy and a wonderful marriage. 

It is the responsibility for both husbands and wife’s to take care of the household works.

Last night when l was about to go to bed l was looking at my old pictures when l was little, and my old family’s pictures. The pictures gave me a good time of laughter because they are very funny, especially my mom’s and my dad’s. l believe most us have these kind of old pictures which gives us a good laughter. What made me laugh was the picture pose and mainly the type of dressing. Just to see how the type of dressing changes over time just made wonder about how the fashion changes over time.

Fashion is something that really determines the type of dressing that l wear, mainly because l want to wear something that l can really feel comfortable with, especially around people. l don’t want to wear something that can scary people or make people uncomfortable around me. Fashion varies with cultures, values of people for example some type of dressing that you will find in Swaziland you will not find in it the United States. Also, fashion mostly varies with seasons, for example right now l am putting away my winter coats because it’s now spring time. But no-matter which season it is or no-matter which culture l am l want to make sure my type of dressing can say a little bit of the type of the person that l am.

What has influenced the type of my dressing code is the people that l admire in life, and what l grew up seeing on television. Fashion comes and go and returns, mainly it just goes in circle, but it has shaped the way l normally dress.   

It is the making music week at my school and many people are excited about the show. The making music attracts many people’s attention, not only the students but also the parent’s students, relatives, and anyone who just want to come and enjoy the masterpiece talents and creativity of social clubs. It happens once a way, so it is worthwhile to mark in the calendar, to go and watch what the social clubs have pulled together to compete with one another.

This past weekend was a busy weekend for the social clubs members, as they where putting the final touches together for the competition. The social clubs members worked so hard because they spent the whole weekend preparing for the show. l saw some of my friends who are in social clubs worn out and tired after their practices, and they got back to the dorms like 12:45 am while they went to their practices in the morning. Last night l had a chance to go and watch as they performed for the students. It was a great show because all the clubs showed creativity and great coordination as they performed, and l think it’s going to be tough for the judges to select the winner. The hosts did a wonderful job because they sang and performed well, that was amazing job from the hosts. Not forgetting the hilarious performance from the mc’s, they gave me a good laughter, and the lighting during the show was so unique and nice. Everything was just done in a more fashioned way, it was a high standard of excellence from everyone who participated in putting this show together.

l wish every social club the best and let the games begin.

Eufa Champions league is one of the top football (soccer) competitions hosted annually to top European soccer clubs. It was established in 1955 with Federal International Football Association. It is one of the competitions, that every soccer player would love to participate in, it is the competition that every professional soccer coach would love to win, and also it is the competition that every club in Europe would love to win.

The fans and soccer lovers really enjoy this competition because it is one of the most talked and discussed soccer competitions world wide. Back home people get together to watch these competitions and people will be supporting there teams. l remember last year l watch the finals with my friends at my friend’s house, although the the team that l support was not in the finals. The finals of last played Barcelona football club from Spain, and Manchester United from England, Barcelona won the finals and they are the raining champions. The team that has the most titles is Real Madrid football club from Spain.

The team that l support has been once in the finals of the champions league in the club history, and that was back in 2006 finals which where hosted in France. This year’s finals will in Spain. My team was nocked out of the competition today with Barcelona, although we lost the game l was proud of team because they gave all they have, despite the injuries that have affected my team.

l get so excited when l talk about soccer because l love, drink, play, sleep and talk soccer. It is something that l grew up playing and also l have known it since l was little. l love and appreciate soccer.

Today after my classes something just made my day, l talked to my mom, dad and my sister over the telephone. Just hearing my mom’s voice telling me that she misses me and she is proud of me was one of the best feelings, considering how far l am from my parents and siblings. I spoke with my sister and it was also one of the best things on my day because it has been almost two years since l heard my sister’s voice. It felt so good just to hear their voices because they are all part of my life, without them l could have been nothing.

After l have spoke to my family over the phone something just came to my mind, and it’s how helpful the telephone is. On the conversation l was able to hear my family’s voices that’s a great thing because over the internet you will not be able to hear the voice, and there is no fast and quick responses. Over the phone l could feel the connection and the power of the voice because l was talking to my mom, dad and sister but only that l was not able to see them. There is thousand miles between me and my family but we where talking like we are right next to each other. With the telephone it is first hand information, no transmission or anything. Also the information and message reliable because there no editing.  

So, after talking to my family over the phone l just looked and smiled at the receiver and appreciated how helpful this device is. Telephone comes in very handy for me because my family back home they don’t have internet access at the house, otherwise l could have called them on skype. What a beautiful day it was, thanks to the telephone.
